Mount Olive College assistant cross country/track and field coach Jackie Kirby, who was struck by an automobile January 8, has been transferred to the rehabilitation section at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, N.C. Jackie’s having her good days and her not so good days. She is off to a good start in rehab, but still experiencing pain.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Men’s Cross Country Team turned in an average time of 31:53.66 helping the Royals win their fifth consecutive NCAA Division II Southeast Region Cross Country Championship title at McAlpine Creek Park this morning. Also earning a spot in the national race is Mount Olive College who finished with a score of 82. King took the third place spot with a score of 114.

Conference Cross-Country Runners Represented on USTFCCCA 2009 Division II All-Academic Honorees List
To qualify for All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have completed at least 12 semester/quarter hours through the semester of competition at the institution to be eligible. The student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and have placed in the top 30% of the total number of athletes eligible to compete at the respective regional championships or have placed in the top 50% of the field at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. The 286 USTFCCCA All-Academic honorees represent 106 schools around the country. The list includes 31 who were reported to have 4.0 GPAs at the end of the 2009 fall semester.

Royals MXC Match National Ranking with NCAA Seventh Place Finish
CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Despite spells of bad luck including losing national track champion Michael Crouch to a hernia and having a top-man go down in the final mile, Queens University of Charlottes mens cross country team pulled out a seventh place finish at the NCAA DII National Cross Country Championship in Evansville, Indiana. The finish matched both the Royals final season ranking and their finish from the 2008 championships.

Greg Shore And Two Crusader Alums Qualify For Boston Marathon
Belmont Abbey junior cross country runner Greg Shore and Abbey Cross Country alums Will McInnis and Logan Beytagh qualified for the Boston Marathon after completing the Thunder Road Marathon in Charlotte on December 13. The Thunder Road Marathon is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, and Shore, McInnis and Beytagh will run in the world's oldest annual marathon on April 20, 2009. In order to qualify for the Boston Marathon, Shore, Beytagh and McInnis had to finish by the 3:10:00 mark, which is the qualifying time for the 18-34 age group.

Hartsville, S.C. - Coker College head men's and women's cross country coach, Ley Fletcher has resigned to take the head track and field coaching job at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina.
Fletcher leaves Coker after seven years at the helm of the cross country programs. "It was a very difficult decision whether or not to leave Coker," said Fletcher. "Coker has been a great place to coach and I feel much more prepared to recruit and coach student-athletes from across the country thanks to Coker."

Fifteen Conference Carolinas Cross Country Runners Named to 2007 NCAA Division II USTFCCCA All-Academic Team
To qualify for the individual All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. The student-athletes must also finish in the top 30 percent of individual participants at their respective regional cross country championships.

Limestone Names Track & Field Coach; Vees to Head Program in Inaugural Season
GAFFNEY, S.C. Limestone College Athletics Director Mike Cerino has announced the appointment of Kevin Vees as the Colleges Head Mens and Womens Track & Field Coach. The Saints track & field teams will begin competition in the spring of 2009. The program will be one of only four NCAA Division II programs in South Carolina and will compete in the Conference Carolinas.
I am excited for the opportunity to be the first track and field coach at Limestone College, said Vees. Im looking forward to building the team from the ground up. I think that this is going to be great for South Carolina students because we will be one of the few Division II schools in the state to have a track and field program.

NEW ORLEANS The slimmest of victories over Adams State at the North Central Regional Championships was enough to move Western State to the top of the Division II mens cross country rankings. Anderson Women Named Favorites in Cross Country Poll!
Thomasville, NC> Anderson University womens cross country team has been labeled the favorites in this years preseason coaches poll. After an injury-riddled season in 2006, Anderson head coach Randy Greer is hoping he can keep his womens cross country team healthy this season. The Lady Trojans battled through injuries last fall to win two meets, including the conference championship, before finishing fourth in the NCAA regional meet. I think our women have been dominant the last couple of years, Greer said. Its just a matter of getting them all healthy. I dont think weve got anything locked up, but if we run like were supposed to run, weve got an extremely good shot of winning the conference, and we should contend for the region title and a trip to the national meet.

Thomasville, NC> In another close preseason coaches poll this season, Conference Carolinas mens cross country coaches marked Anderson University as the top target going into the season. Anderson just edged St. Andrews Presbyterian College men by one point. The teams battled throughout last year with Anderson winning the conference tournament just before St. Andrews came back to win the Southeast Regional to receive the automatic nod to advance to the NCAA National Championships.

Former SAPC Runner & Triathlete Goes from Hospital to Finish Line
Adam Vick of Salisbury looked as healthy as many of the other top finishers in Saturday mornings triathlon at Lake Cammack Park and Marina. The fact that he finished so well perhaps wasnt nearly as impressive in that he started the competition at all. About 10 months ago, he was in a Charlotte hospital with his family wondering if he would live. He had bleeding of the brain, bruised lungs and bruised kidneys and a lot of road rash, he said.

Pensacola, FL; Twenty-four teams and 187 runners competed in Saturdays NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country National Championship Meet at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola, Fla. Among the competitors was Lees-McRae College Dana Lindholm (Weaverville, NC). The freshman finished 158th with a personal best time of 23:38 over the 6,000 meter course.

Cokers Green Sets New Personal Best at NCAA Championship XC Meet
Pensacola, FL- David Green may not have won the NCAA Division II National Championship Cross Country meet, but he was able to defeat every other runner in the Southeast Region and along the way set a new person best record for himself. Green ran the 10K championship race in a time of 31:21, placing him 75th of 187 runners.
