Mount Olive's Record-Setting Men's Tennis Season Ends At NCAA II Southeast Regional
Akio Mariano and Murilo Pelegrino posted straight-set singles wins to rally No. 9 seed Mount Olive to a 3-3 tie, but No. 8 seed Wingate won the final two singles matches to defeat the Trojans 5-3 in the opening round of the Southeast Regional of the 2012 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship Sunday at Savannah, Ga.

No. 9 Seed Trojans To Face No. 8 Wingate In NCAA II Men’s Tennis Southeast Regional First Round
Mount Olive earned the No. 9 seed and will travel to Savannah, Ga., Sunday to face No. 8 seed Wingate in the first round of the Southeast Regional-I of the 2012 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship. Match time is 4 p.m. The five-team tournament, one of two tournaments in the Southeast Region, is hosted by Armstrong Atlantic State. Columbus State is hosting the four-team Southeast Regional-II.

With the recent official new member additions of King College and North Greenville University (June 1st 2011), individual schedules had to change in order to incorporate the scope of conference schedules with the growth from 11 to 13 teams that will now be competing in the league.

Coker College head mens and womens tennis coach Alvin Cheng has announced that he will be formally resigning his post as the leader of the Cobras tennis teams at the end of this season. Cheng and his wife Carrie has decided to move to Mount Vernon, Ohio to be closer to her family and start a family of their own.

Since joining the league in 1999, the Trojans are 83-5 in league play and have lost just two league matches in the last six years. In those six years they have also collected five out of six conference tournament championships and five out of six regular season championships while winning both titles for the second straight year.

Mount Olive College Remembers Fallen Tennis Star Bruno Capato
There were tears, hugs and smiles as Mount Olive College celebrated the life and mourned the loss of Bruno Capato during a mass Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mount Olive. Capato passed away in his sleep in May of a heart attack, caused by an enlarged heart. Capato, who was from Sao Paulo, Brazil, had enrolled at Mount Olive in January and had just completed his first semester. He was majoring in business administration.
