Abbey Men's Golf Fires Two Under Par 278 After First Round Of NCAA Division II Championships

The Belmont Abbey men's golf team ended its first round of play at the 2008 NCAA Division II Championships with a two-under par 278. At the end of its round, the Abbey was tied for second, but was the first group to complete the round out of the 24 team field. The Championship is being held at the par 70, 7,158 yard Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, Texas. MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. Bill Clingan, who has guided Mount Olive to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last five years, is retiring after 18 years as head mens basketball coach, it was announced Tuesday during a news conference. Clingan retires with more than 300 wins, an NCAA regional championship, three regular season conference titles and a conference tournament championship, including a conference regular season and tournament championship in his final season. INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Division II Baseball Committee has selected the 48 teams that will participate in the 2008 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship. The regionals will be comprised of six teams competing in double-elimination tournaments. Eight regional competitions will be played May 15-18, at eight on-campus sites. Regional champions will advance to the double-elimination championship finals May 24-31 at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois, which will be hosted by Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville and the University of Missouri, St. Louis. (This is the first time that three conference teams have been selected and the second time -2007 -that a conference team has hosted.)
