Mount Olive Earns Highest-Ever Finish In NACDA Directors Cup Standings Four NCAA Tournament participants, including the national championship baseball team, propelled Mount Olive to finish among the top third in the 2007-08 U.S. Academy NACDA Directors Cup Division II Standings. Mount Olive posted its first-ever top 100 finish, placing 84th out of 287 NCAA Division II institutions. Mount Olive had the highest ranking of any Conference Carolinas member and the third-highest of 17 Division II schools in North Carolina. The Directors Cup is administered by the National Association of Collegiate Athletics Directors of America.
Mount Olive finished with 211.50 points, including the maximum 100 points for winning the 2008 NCAA Division II Baseball National Championship. The Trojans defeated Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) 6-2 in the championship game May 31 at Sauget, Ill.
Mount Olive also picked up 36.5 points this spring with a fourth-place finish among Atlantic Region teams at this year’s NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Atlantic/Southeast Super Regional. During the winter season, the Trojans garnered 50 points for reaching the semifinals of the 2008 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball East Regional and 25 points for earning a berth in the 2008 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball East Regional.
The 2007-08 academic year marked the second time in three years that four Mount Olive teams advanced to NCAA Tournament play. Three Trojan teams reached the NCAA Tournament in 2006-07.
“This has been a tremendous year for Mount Olive athletics,” said Director of Athletics Jeff Eisen. “We are very proud of the way our teams competed regionally and nationally, and seeing Mount Olive ranked among the national leaders in overall sports excellence is very rewarding.”
