CONFERENCE CAROLINAS HOSTING ‘BE
ABOUT IT'
STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISORY COMMITTEE WEEKEND RETREAT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, January 26, 2010
High Point, N.C.> John C Maxwell was quoted as stating, "A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way." Conference Carolinas is exemplifying that quote by promoting the "Be About It" theme at their second annual student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) weekend retreat in High Point, NC this Friday and Saturday (1/29/10-1/30/10). The conference will focus on educating student-athletes on various leadership styles and how those styles allow for success through athletics, academics, and other aspects of life.
As leaders become who they are through a variety of
distinctive characteristics that they have either acquired or have
innately inherited, it is Conference Carolinas' goal to assist the
development of positive leaders. Therefore, two student-athletes
and one athletics administrator from each member school are being
invited to participate in the ‘Be About It' retreat.
The innovative thinking strategies taught at the retreat will
help improve leadership within game and team environments. The
charge will be to build upon current methods of leading and to
believe that to ‘Be About It', one cannot simply just talk
about it!
Some of the highlights of the retreat will include: the DISC Leadership test which will pinpoint different successful individual leadership styles; motivational speaker Merikay Tillman; different team and communication building forums; the initiative for a new mentorship implementation plan and; the ‘Officials Appreciation Night' rollout program.
"We know that Conference Carolinas student-athletes have experienced classroom and on-the-field success. The leadership program allows us to work with an ‘All-Star Team' that will promote student-athlete leadership on every member campus," stated Conference Carolinas Commissioner Alan Patterson."
