North Greenville's Wilder Named Week 5 Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – North Greenville University's Shekinah Wilder has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 29 - Feb. 4.

Wilder, a junior from Aiken, S.C., launched herself into the upper ranks of the Division II national standings in the triple jump this past weekend at the Buccaneer Invitational.  Her leap of 12.26 meters (40' 2 3/4") not only won the meet and placed her atop the Conference Carolinas standings, it also surpassed the provisional qualifying mark and is the fourth-farthest leap in Division II so far this season.  She now leads both the conference and region by nearly two feet. 

 

Limestone's Cheeseboro Named Week 4 Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Limestone College's Shandora Cheeseboro has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 22 - Jan. 28.

Cheeseboro, a freshman from Batesburg-Leesville, S.C., earned the first provisional qualifying mark of her collegiate career this past weekend at the 2018 Liberty Kickoff.  Her triple jump mark of 11.63 meters (38' 2") hit the provisional qualifying standard in that event exactly, as well as earning her 5th place at the meet.  That mark was also good for a new school record and is the third-best jump in the league so far this season.  

 

Southern Wesleyan's Smith Named Week 3 Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Southern Wesleyan University's Kelsie Smith has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 15 - Jan. 21.

Smith, a freshman from Stafford, V.A., showed her growing potential in the weight throw at the Wake Forest Invitational this past weekend.  Her mark of 13.80m (45' 3 1/2") improved her collegiate personal best and set a new school record for the second weekend in a row.  Her throw, good for 10th place at the meet, puts her atop the Conference Carolinas leaderboard in that event.

 

Converse's Wesley Named Week 2 Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Converse College's Shakura Wesley has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 8 - Jan. 14.

Wesley, a sophomore from Spartanburg, S.C., set a new personal-best in the shotput at the ETSU Invitational on her way to placing 18th in a strong field of 42 competitors, including multiple Division I athletes.  Her mark of 11.49m is good for top-5 in the conference standings so far this year and tops her previous best indoor mark by 2 feet. 

 

Mount Olive's Moncrief Named Week 1 Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Taylor Moncrief has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Dec. 2. - Jan. 7.

Moncrief, who hails from Jacksonville, N.C., started her sophomore campaign in style at the UNCG Early Bird Duals on December 3 by setting school records in both the long jump and triple jump, while also exceeding the national provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump.  Her personal record leap of 5.56m (18'3") in the long jump was good for third place at the meet and has her sitting comfortably atop the conference performance list.  Her triple jump mark of 11.69m (38' 4 1/4"), another personal record mark, was good for second place, and is currently the top mark in the conference and the ninth-best in Division II.  


INDOOR SEASON


 

High Point, N.C. – Converse College’s Ashly Sutherland has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track Player of the Week during week three of the 2014 - 2015 Indoor Track & Field season. Sutherland posted a Conference Carolinas best 800m time at the Winston-Salem State Open running the event in 2:17.07 missing the NCAA DII Provisional time by just over a second. The Cowpens, S.C. native leads the Conference Carolinas in the mile event running a school record 5:09.80 finishing fifth overall at the Bob Pollock Invitational against a majority DI field. Sutherland is ranked 15th among DII athletes in the 800m and 37th overall in the mile.
