Mount Olive's Blades Named Week 5 Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Shona Blades has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held April 9 - 15.

Blades, a junior from Glasgow, Scotland, ran a new career-best time in the 3000m steeplechase by nearly 40 seconds at the Phoenix Invitational this past weekend.  In her first time running the event this season, Blades notched a first-place finish and moved herself into 5th all-time in the Mount Olive record book.  That time is currently the second-fastest in Conference Carolinas, behind her own teammate Leah Hanle, and the fifth-fastest in the Southeast region.   


Mount Olive's Hanle Named Week 4 Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Leah Hanle has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held April 2 - 8.

Hanle, a sophomore from Lichtenstein, Germany, is being honored with her third AOTW honor in as many weeks after producing another Division II automatic qualifying mark in a second event on the season.  Hanle showed her range at the Colonial Relays, this time producing a dominating performance in the 10,000 meter run.  Her time of 33:43.95, a new personal best and nearly a minute faster than the auto mark, currently sits second in Division II.  Hanle has now qualified for the national meet in the 3000 meter steeplechase (provisional mark), the 5000 meter run (automatic mark), and the 10,000 meter run (automatic mark), and sits top-4 nationally in all three events.  


Mount Olive's Hanle Named Week 3 Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Leah Hanle has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held March 26 - April 1.

A sophomore from Lichtenstein, Germany, Hanle produced another dominating performance this past weekend, this time in the 5000 meter run.  Competing at Raleigh Relays, Hanle placed eighth overall and was the top Division II finisher after racing to an impressive time of 16:03.14.  Her time is an automatic qualifier for the Division II national meet in May and currently leads the descending order list by a whopping 31 seconds.  Hanle's time also broke her own school record in that event. 


Mount Olive's Hanle Named Week 2 Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Leah Hanle has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held March 19 - 25.

Hanle, a sophomore from Lichtenstein, Germany, had a record-breaking day at University of Mount Olive's home meet, the Trojan Challenge, recording wins in both the 3000 meter steeplechase and the 800 meter run on her way to two new facility records.  In the steeplechase, Hanle ran an impressive 10:29.25, only 10 seconds off the NCAA automatic qualifying mark and the best time in all of Division II so far this season.  She completed her winning 800 meter run in a time of 2:18.34, which sits atop the conference standings.    


Southern Wesleyan's Lewis Named Week 1 Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Southern Wesleyan University's Jami Lewis has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held March 12 - 18.

Lewis, a sophomore from Stafford, V.A., posted the top time of any Division II athlete in the field in the 400 meter hurdles this past weekend at the 49er Classic.  Her time of 1:03.58, a new personal best, was good for 9th place at the meet and leads both the conference and the Southeast Region.  Lewis also competed as part of the 4x100 meter relay team that ran 47.23 seconds to take 6th place and claim the top performance of any Division II team in that field.  

 


OUTDOOR SEASON


 

High Point, N.C. – Converse College’s Ashly Sutherland has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track Player of the Week during week three of the 2014 - 2015 Indoor Track & Field season. Sutherland posted a Conference Carolinas best 800m time at the Winston-Salem State Open running the event in 2:17.07 missing the NCAA DII Provisional time by just over a second. The Cowpens, S.C. native leads the Conference Carolinas in the mile event running a school record 5:09.80 finishing fifth overall at the Bob Pollock Invitational against a majority DI field. Sutherland is ranked 15th among DII athletes in the 800m and 37th overall in the mile.
