Limestone's Rodriguez-Kirkland Named Week 15 Men's Wrestler of the Week

               

HIGH POINT, N.C.Limestone College's Matthew Rodriquez-Kirkland has been named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week for meets held during the week of Feb. 18-24, the league announced today. This marks the first POTW for Rodriquez-Kirkland and second overall for Limestone.

Rodriquez-Kirkland, a senior from Ives Estates, Fla., went 2-0 at the NCAA Super Regionals II tournament last week and booked a trip to nationals by winning the 165-pound weight class.

Rodriquez-Kirkland, the No. 10 ranked wrestler in 165, started his title run with a 22-2 tech fall over Coker's Corey Christie. Rodriquez-Kirkland would secure the title by upsetting Rodney Shepard, the No. 2 ranked wrestler in 165, by an 8-5 decision.

Newberry's Gossett Named Week 14 Men's Wrestler of the Week

               

HIGH POINT, N.C.Newberry College's Patton Gossett has been named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week for meets held during the week of Feb. 11-17, the league announced today. This marks the third POTW for Gossett and sixth overall for Newberry.

A senior from Lexington, S.C., Gossett went 1-0 on the week with his win securing Newberry the inaugural South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestling Championship title. With Newberry trailing Limestone, 17-13, entering his match, Gossett would need only 40 seconds to defeat Daniel Bland by fall to capture the league crown for the Wolves.

Queens' Rubio Named Week 13 Men's Wrestler of the Week

               

HIGH POINT, N.C.Queens University of Charlotte's Melvin Rubio has been named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week for meets held during the week of Feb. 4-10, the league announced today. This marks the first POTW for Rubio and second overall for Queens.

Rubio, a sophomore from Chandler, N.C., went a perfect 4-0 last week en route to winning the 125-pound weight class at the Newberry Open. Rubio would be dominant in all four matches, winning three bouts by a combined score of 33-2 and the fourth bout via fall.

HIGH POINT, N.C.Newberry College's Patton Gossett has been named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week for meets held during the week of Jan. 28 - Feb. 3, the league announced today. This marks the second POTW for Gossett and fifth overall for Newberry.

A senior from Lexington, S.C., Gossett led Newberry to a 29-12 Conference win over Coker. Gossett, the No. 12 ranked heavyweight in the country, collected a win via fall in just 43 seconds against Ramon Correa of Coker.

Belmont Abbey's Siwiec Named Week 11 Men's Wrestler of the Week

               

HIGH POINT, N.C.Belmont Abbey College's Mike Siwiec has been named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week for meets held during the week of Jan. 21-27, the league announced today. This marks both the second POTW for Siwiec and Belmont Abbey.

A junior from Toms River, N.J., Siwiec was the hero in Belmont Abbey's victory over Coker last week with a late fall. With the Crusaders down 25-19, Siwiec would take the mat against Dalton Haywood of Coker and come away with a fall in just 1:49 of action. The win would end the dual tied at 25-all, but Belmont Abbey would win the contest through tiebreaker by way of Siwiec's pin.

King's Vasquez Named Week 10 Men's Wrestler of the Week

               

HIGH POINT, N.C.King University's Chris Vasquez has been named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week for meets held during the week of Jan. 14-20., the league announced today.

Vasquez, a freshman from Fredericksburg, Va., led King to Conference win over Belmont Abbey to move the team to 2-0 in the league standings. With the two teams tied at 19-all heading into the final match, Vasquez would pin Belmont Abbey's Lucas Scarlett in 4:27 to earn the come-from-behind win for King.

Newberry's Gossett Named Week 9 Men's Wrestler of the Week

               

HIGH POINT, N.C.Queens University of Charlotte's Noah Curreri has been named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week for meets held during the week of Dec. 31 - Jan. 6, the league announced today.

Curreri, a sophomore from Glen Spey, N.Y., picked up another win for Queens this year in its dual against Huntingdon College last week. For the second time this season, Curreri moved up to the 197 weight class and it paid off, as he picked up a win via fall (4:30) against Huntingdon's Cody Dixon.

HIGH POINT, N.C.Queens University of Charlotte's Noah Curreri has been named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week for meets held during the week of Dec. 31 - Jan. 6, the league announced today.

Curreri, a sophomore from Glen Spey, N.Y., picked up another win for Queens this year in its dual against Huntingdon College last week. For the second time this season, Curreri moved up to the 197 weight class and it paid off, as he picked up a win via fall (4:30) against Huntingdon's Cody Dixon. 


Newberry's Royal Named Week 7 Men's Wrestler of the Week

               

HIGH POINT, N.C.Newberry College's Isiah Royal has been named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week for meets held during the week of Dec. 10-16, the league announced today. This marks the first POTW for Royal and the third overall for Newberry.

A sophomore from Guyton, Ga., Royal placed runner-up in the 141-pound class and led Newberry to a 23rd-place team finish at the Midwest Classic. Royal started his run with a fall in 3:23 against Ryan Schmalen of No. 5 Upper Iowa. He would then defeat Mason Schultz of Minnesota State University Moorhead with a 4-2 decision, which he followed up with an 8-0 major decision over Aiden Burke of No. 21 Mercyhurst. Royal would earn a spot in the championship match by defeating Jebben Keyes of Augustana by a score of 8-3. Royal would narrowly lose by a score of 3-2 to No. 7 nationally ranked Chandler Minnard of No. 14 Ashland to finish second in the 141 weight class.


Belmont Abbey's Siwiec Named Week 6 Men's Wrestler of the Week

               

HIGH POINT, N.C.Belmont Abbey College's Mike Siwiec has been named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week for meets held during the week of Dec. 3-9, the league announced today.

Siwiec, a junior from Toms River, N.J., led Belmont Abbey to a 36-20 win over Bluefield College in the team's lone dual last week. Siwiec picked up his sixth win of the season by recording his sixth fall in 1:17 in the 285 bout against Bluefield.


Newberry's Palmer Named Week 5 Men's Wrestler of the Week

               

HIGH POINT, N.C.Newberry College's Austin Palmer has been named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week for meets held during the week of Nov. 26 - Dec. 2, the league announced today. This marks the first POTW for Palmer and the second overall for Newberry.

A junior from West Columbia, S.C., Palmer posted a perfect 3-0 record with two falls at the Newberry Duals, picking up wins in the 157-pound weight class. Palmer would tally a fall over Bellarmine's Eric Beck in 3:17, which was followed by a fall against Jason Slaughter of No. 9 Western Colorado in 3:46. Palmer closed out the day with a 2-1 decision over Taner Trembley of No. 1 St. Cloud State.

Emmanuel's Cline Named Week 3 Men's Wrestler of the Week

               

HIGH POINT, N.C.Emmanuel College's Emery Cline has been named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week for meets held during the week of Nov. 12-18, the league announced today. 

Cline, a senior from Shady Dale, Ga., collected the 133 weight class title at the Georgia Open with three falls and a 5-0 record.

Cline would start his day with back-to-back falls over Truett McConnell's Leonel Silvestre (4:49) and Life's Cooper Simon (1:16), respectively. He would then defeat Life's Lucas Patterson with a 9-4 decision. Cline would then beat Spartanburg Methodist's Tramone Jenkins in sudden victory by a score of 6-4. He would conclude his championship run with a fall over Life's Dashanieal Porter (4:05).


Limestone's Prince Named Week 2 Men's Wrestler of the Week

               

HIGH POINT, N.C.Limestone College's Hayden Prince has been named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week for meets held during the week of Nov. 5-11, the league announced today. 

A freshman from Goose Creek, S.C., Prince posted a dominant 4-0 record and won the 184 weight class at the King Open.

Prince would start his day with a 11-3 major decision over eventual third-place finisher Darius Rutland. In his second match he would register a 16-1 tech fall over Pedro Daher of Coker. Prince would finish his championship run with back-to-back falls of Reinhardt's Tate Holmes (2:50) and Midway's Richard Almodovar (0:32), respectively.


Newberry's Gant Named Week 1 Men's Wrestler of the Week

               

HIGH POINT, N.C.Newberry College's Zebrandon Gant has been named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week for meets held during the week of Nov. 1-4, the league announced today. 

Gant, a freshman from Springfield, Ga., posted a 5-1 record and finished sixth in the 184 weight class at the Hokie Open.

Gant would pick up a 10-7 decision in a match against Samuel Fisher from Falcon RTC, before registering a fall in 2:16 against Seth Spell of Coker. He would earn a 22-5 tech fall against Jacob Booth of Bluefield College. Gant would then sneak out some close matches, winning 8-6 over Paul Pierce of George Mason and 6-5 against Jackson Moomau of Vest Virginia. He would drop a 3-5 decision against D'angelo Dewitt of Virginia Tech in the fifth-place match to earn a sixth-place finish.
