Mount Olive's Moncrief Named Week 7 Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Taylor Moncrief has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, for meets held Feb. 4-10, the Conference announced today.

Junior Taylor Moncrief also had a successful weekend at the VMI Winter Relays. Moncrief set an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark for the Trojans in the triple jump with a distance of 11.84m (38' 6.25'") to place third in the event and break the UMO school record. Moncrief now ranks second in the conference in the triple jump for this indoor season.


Southern Wesleyan's Onwuzuruike Named Week 6 Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Southern Wesleyan University's Mycherie Onwuzuruike has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, for meets held Jan. 31 - Feb. 1, the Conference announced today.

Southern Wesleyan freshman Mycherie Onwuzuruike had an outstanding performance in the long jump at the Carolina Challenge this weekend. Onwuzuruike surpassed the NCAA DII provisional qualifying mark (5.65m) to win the meet with an impressive leap of 5.74m (18' 10"). Onwuzuruike is currently tied for 17th in the NCAA and leads the conference in the event.


Mount Olive's Lockett Named Week 5 Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Candise Lockett has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, for meets held Jan. 24 - Jan. 28, the Conference announced today.

Sophomore Candise Lockett from Birmingham, England had a record-setting weekend at the Liberty Kick-Off in the throws. Lockett moved into second place in the UMO record books with her throw of 14.95m (49' 0.75') in the weight throw for a seventh-place finish. Lockett now holds the second-best mark in the conference for this season.


Limestone's Wilder Named Week 4 Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Limestone College's Skyler Gadsden has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 17 - Jan. 21, the Conference announced today.

Sophomore Skyler Gadsden from Bonneau, S.C. also had a successful weekend at the Gamecock Invitational in the throws. Gadsden led the Saints with a first-place finish in the open division of the women's shot put with a mark of 12.34m (40' 6") to rank her second in the conference this season.


North Greenville's Wilder Named Week 3 Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – North Greenville University's Shekinah Wilder hasbeen named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 10 - Jan. 14, the Conference announced today.

Senior Shekinah Wilder from Aiken, S.C. also had a successful weekend at the Orange & Purple Open in Clemson, S.C. Wilder placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.48m (37'8") to hold the leading mark in the conference.


Mount Olive's Kafi Named Week 1 Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Malak Kafi hasbeen named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Nov. 29 - Dec. 3, the Conference announced today.

On the field, Kafi, who hails from High Point, N.C., started her junior campaign in style at the Appalachian State Open by setting the University of Mount Olive school record in the long jump, while also exceeding the national provisional qualifying mark with a leap of 5.68m (18'7.75"). In a competitive field of athletes, Kafi prevailed to win the meet and now holds the top mark in the conference and the eighth-best in Division II.  

 

INDOOR SEASON


 

High Point, N.C. – Converse College’s Ashly Sutherland has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track Player of the Week during week three of the 2014 - 2015 Indoor Track & Field season. Sutherland posted a Conference Carolinas best 800m time at the Winston-Salem State Open running the event in 2:17.07 missing the NCAA DII Provisional time by just over a second. The Cowpens, S.C. native leads the Conference Carolinas in the mile event running a school record 5:09.80 finishing fifth overall at the Bob Pollock Invitational against a majority DI field. Sutherland is ranked 15th among DII athletes in the 800m and 37th overall in the mile.
