League Announces Winter ‘Team Sportsmanship Award’ Winners
High Point, NC – Conference Carolinas announces the 2011-12 winter sportsmanship award recipients for men’s and women’s basketball. Teams from Belmont Abbey and Mount Olive are recognized as demonstrating the best sportsmanship in Conference Carolinas basketball during the winter season. The designation was by a vote of member basketball coaches and student athletes throughout the league.

High Point, NC> The Limestone College men’s basketball team was voted the top squad in this year’s preseason poll as voted on by the league’s head coaches. Limestone and Queens tied with five first-place votes each, but the Saints finished four overall points higher than the Royals in the poll. Barton received one first-place vote and claimed the third position.

Kendrick Easley scored a game-high 24 points and became only the second player in Mount Olive College history to reach the career 2,000-point mark, but it wasnt enough as the regionally fifth-ranked Trojans had their 11-game winning streak snapped and suffered their first conference loss of the season, falling to regional No. 6 Anderson 81-74 in Conference Carolinas mens basketball Saturday at Anderson, S.C. Mount Olive stormed back from a 10-point second-half deficit to take a seven-point lead late in the game, but a dry spell in the final five minutes allowed Anderson to come back for the win.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens University of Charlotte is pleased to announce both the mens and womens basketball coaching staff will participate in the Samaritans Feet 2010 campaign Barefoot for Bare Feet on January 16 as the teams take on Pfeiffer University. All of the Queens coaches will coach their respective contests without shoes.

Conference Carolinas SAAC to recognize officials
NCAA> Indianapolis, IN> One Division II conference commissioner mused recently about researching the first person to ever yell at a sports official (Caesar, perhaps?). On the other hand, another Division II conference may be the first to appreciate them. Conference Carolinas, building on an idea from its student-athlete advisory committee, is organizing a league-wide Officials Appreciation Night during a series of conference basketball games this coming season. The initiative aligns with Division IIs game-environment effort, but − perhaps more importantly − it comes from the student-athletes who may have something to teach the fans who otherwise feel entitled to give game officials their two cents.

Mount Olive College senior Kendrick Easley has been named to the 2009-10 Division II Bulletin Mens Basketball Preseason All-America Team, it was announced by the basketball publication. The preseason All-America award is the second this season for Easley, who is among two players from the Southeast Region and 16 players nationwide on the Division II Bulletin All-America Team.

NCCSIA Announces North Carolina All-State College Division Men's Basketball Teams; Three Conference Carolinas Players Represented
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Ten student-athletes form the 2008-09 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Mens Basketball Teams released on Wednesday.
The teams consist of five student-athletes from North Carolina NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA colleges and universities. Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals. NCCSIA members voted for the all-state teams. Teams are selected for men and women in both the college and university (NCAA Division I) divisions.

NCAA Basketball National Championship Brackets Announced! Barton Men & Anderson Women Receive Tickets to Big Dance!
The field for the men's and women's D-II Championships were released on Sunday night. For the 64-team men's bracket, seven of eight regions will begin play on March 14, with the West Regional beginning on March 13. The men's Tournament culminates with the quarterfinals through finals being played at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, March 25, 26 and 28. ---On the women's side, all eight regions housing the 64-team field start play on the 13th, with the Women's Elite Eight running on March 24, 25 and 27 at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio, Texas.

Everyone was encouraged to wear their best 80s outfit and come out and cheer on the Saints basketball teams versus the Crusaders. MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. Bill Clingan, who has guided Mount Olive to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last five years, is retiring after 18 years as head mens basketball coach, it was announced Tuesday during a news conference. Clingan retires with more than 300 wins, an NCAA regional championship, three regular season conference titles and a conference tournament championship, including a conference regular season and tournament championship in his final season. Associate head coach Joey Higginbotham has been promoted to head coach, effective immediately.

The Barton College mens basketball team took an exciting 84-81 victory over Mount Olive College is CSTVs Game of the Week broadcast nationally on Saturday afternoon, and seen by 2,000 spectators at Wilson Gymnasium, known to Barton supporters as the Dog House. But another winner on Saturday was the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the designated non-profit agency of NCAA Division II. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC) of both institutions engaged in a three-week long fundraising challenge to collect funds for Make-A-Wish.

CVAC Sends Record Number of Teams to the 'Big Dance'
The Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference set a conference record sending seven league basketball teams to the NCAA Division II National Tournament. The NCAA selection show announced late Sunday night the pairings for the tournament and the CVAC was proud to have four womens teams and three mens teams represent the conference.

Three CVAC Players Named to Daktronics MBB DII All-East Region Team
(PRINCETON, W.Va.)---High scoring guards dominate the selections for the 2006-07 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-East Region men's basketball squad. Sports information directors from regional institutions select the squad. West Virginia State guard Ted Scott was the top vote-getter and claimed the regional Player of the Year honor. Fellow guards Anthony Atkinson (Barton), DeMario Grier (Pfeiffer), and Corey McDuffie (West Liberty State) are also first team all-region honorees. Concord forward Tyrone Anderson is the lone forward on the five-player squad. All five standouts will now advance to the Daktronics Division II All-America ballot.

Men's & Women's Basketball NCAA Tournament Selection Show To be Broadcast Live Sunday
INDIANAPOLIS -- NCAA Division II and CSTV: College Sports Television have announced the Division II mens and womens basketball selection shows will be broadcast on broadband via www.NCAAsports.com/dii. The selection shows are set to air on Sunday, March 4 beginning at 10:30 p.m. (EST) in an in-house studio at the NCAA National office and will last approximately a half hour.

Final Pairings Set for CVAC Basketball Conference Championship Tournament
Thomasville, NC: Once again it came down to the final games of the regular season in order to decide pairings for the CVAC Championship Tournament. After late games this evening, final pairings have been set as teams will begin play Monday & Wednesday at higher seeded locations for the first and second rounds of the conference tournament. Semifinal and final games will be hosted by Pfeiffer University Friday and Saturday at Merner Gymnasium in Misenheimer, NC.

Belmont Abbey Men's Basketball Team To Host Sport USA Basketball Clinic On Saturday, September 30
BELMONT, NC The Belmont Abbey men's basketball program, in conjunction with Sport USA Basketball Clinics, will host a coaches clinic for high school coaches at the Wheeler Center on the campus of Belmont Abbey College on Saturday, September 30th. The clinic will feature instruction from several area college coaches, including Greg Marshall, Skip Prosser, Larry Hunter, Dale Kuhl and Dan Hughes, who is the head coach of the San Antonio Silver Stars of the WNBA. Larry Nottingham, an assistant at the University of Illinois, will also be on hand.
