Men's Golf Finishes Tied For 12th At NCAA Division II Championships

The Belmont Abbey golf team finished tied for 12th at the NCAA Division II Championships, held at the par 70 Memorial Park Golf Club in Houston, Texas. The Abbey finished with a four day score of 1152 (+32) in just the program's second appearance in the national tournament in as many years.

The Crusaders were led by sophomore Connor Tomlinson, who fired a one over par 71 today to wrap up the Championship with a 5 over par 285. He opened with a three under 67, followed by a 74 and a 73 and wrapped up with a 71 to finish in a tie for 18th.

Senior Matt Chidester finished in a tie for 32nd with a four day score of 287 (+7). Chidester opened with a two under 68, and then carded consecutive scores of 72 before finishing with a 75 today.

Sophomore Chris Carvill ended the Championship in a tie for 44th with a four day score of 290 (+10). He opened with a 73, fired a 74 in the second round and then carded an even par 70 yesterday before recording a 73 today. Classmate Joe Campbell finished in a tie for 64th with a four day total of 293 (+13). Campbell began the Championship with a 72, registered back-to-back scores of 74, and closed with a 73 today.

Freshman Peter Tarver Jones rounded out the Crusader lineup with a score of 296 (+16). Tarver Jones opened with a 71, posted a 74 in the second round and closed with a 77 yesterday and a 74 today.

The Abbey closes out the year with its second straight NCAA Division II Championship appearance, the first two in school history, after winning consecutive regional titles. The Crusaders return all but one player for next season.
