Named Women's Golfer of the Month

Thomasville, NC > Queens University of Charlotte's Hilary Armel has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women's golf Player of the Month for the month of March in the 2007-08 season. Armel, a native of Stephens City, Va., recorded two top-ten finishes during the month of March. She led the Royals in the Panther Invitational hosted by Florida Tech with a three round total of 257 for an eighth place finish. In the Chick-Fil-A Invitational hosted by Catawba, Armel scored her lowest round for the month, 80, helping her to finish fourth out of 40. Armel was the only women's golfer to finish in the top 10 at either invitational for Queens during the month.

Barton's Jonathan Burke Named Men's Golf Player of the Month; Takes Award for Third Time this Season

Thomasville, N.C.> Barton College's Jonathan Burke has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas men's golf Player of the Month for the month of March in the 2007-08 season. Jonathon also was awarded the honor in October & February this season. Barton College junior Jonathan Burke continued his fine play for the Bulldogs in March, when he averaged 72.5 over four rounds and led Barton to its second tournament title of the season. The Bulldogs won the 2Targets-Barton Intercollegiate behind a torrid 69-70--139 (-5) by Burke, who tied the University of North Carolina's Chase McFarland for medalist honors, then lost in a playoff. The 5-under scores by the two young men were the best two-day scores ever recorded in the 33 years of the annual event. The previous week, Burke fired 77-74--151 for Barton in the Richard Rendleman Invitational. For the year, Burke has been among the top four regional performers in six of seven tournaments and has posted four top-10 overall finishes, including a runner-up and tying for first twice. He is averaging 73.63 over 16 rounds, with seven of those rounds at par or better.
