ABBEY WOMEN, QUEENS MEN CROWNED CONFERENCE CAROLINAS GOLF CHAMPIONS; ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAMS ANNOUNCED

The Belmont Abbey women sucessfully defended its 2010 Conference Carolinas Championship and the Queens men edged Coker by ten shots to claim the men's title after three solid rounds of the 2011 Conference Carolinas men's and women's golf championships, which was hosted by Belmont Abbey College at the par 72 Woodlake Resort, Maples Course, in Vass, North Carolina.

In the women's championship, the Crusaders led wire-to-wire as they led by 25 after the first round, 42 after the second and won by 54 strokes. Sophomore Melissa Siviter defended her 2010 individual title with a seven shot victory. Four of the Abbey's five players finished in the top five, including the top three spots. Siviter won by seven strokes over Michelle Low with a three-day score of 222 (+6). Low posted a 229. Meagan Wallace was third at 232. Pfeiffer's Angela Gimenez finished fourth with a score of 234. Belmont Abbey's Rita Kim finished fifth with a 236.

Belmont Abbey wins its third Conference Championship in its six-year history, and its second-straight.

Queens finished second with a 971, Pfeiffer was third (988). Mount Olive (1009), Limestone (1074), Erskine (1076), Coker (1121) and St. Andrews (1232) rounded out the field.

In the men's competition, the Royals led all three rounds and held off a late Coker charge to claim the title. The Royals C.J. DeBerg (+1) claimed individual honors after edging teammate Ryan Sevigny by three shots. Diego Polo of Coker and Thomas Buchanan of Lees-McRae were third. Buchanan fired the low round of the tournament with a final round 69. He opened with a 78 and posted a 75 yesterday.

Coker and Queens fired final round scores of 296 as the Royals finished with an 894, ten clear of the Cobras. Barton (910) was third and Pfeiffer (913) was fourth. Belmont Abbey (919), Mount Olive (931), Lees-McRae (932), Limestone (934), St. Andrews (934) and Erskine (973) rounded out the field.
