Mount Olive Men Crowned Track & Field Champs; Trojans Sweep Individual Awards

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Freshman Devan Mackey (Hickory, N.C.) won the shot put and posted a trio of personal-bests to lead the Lees-McRae College men’s track and field team to a third-place performance on Saturday at the 2011 Conference Carolinas Championship meet at the Arthur, Laurentsen and Sanders Track and Field Complex.
Mount Olive College captured the team title with a total of 212 points, followed by Limestone College (137), Lees-McRae (131), Belmont Abbey College (69), Queens University of Charlotte (42), and Barton College (20). Trojan head coach Matt van Lierop was named Coach of the Year, while Dalton Souza garnered both Men’s Track Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors. Joe Murphy was also named the Men’s Field Athlete of the Year.
