WOMEN'S GOLF FINISHES FIFTH AT NCAA SUPER REGIONALS; WARRINGTON
QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS AS AN INDIVIDUAL
The Belmont Abbey women's golf team finished fifth at the NCAA
Super Regionals, and senior Carley Warrington qualified for the
NCAA National Tournament as an individual after surviving a four
for three, two hole playoff.
The top three fininishing teams, Nova Southeastern (890), Florida
Southern (899) and Rollins College (905) advance to the national
tournament. The top three individual finishers from the
non-qualifying teams advance to the nationals as individuals.
Four players tied at 226 (13-over-par, tied for seventh place)
started the playoff on the first hole. All four parred the opening
hole then Newberry's Maria Luz Besio claimed her spot with a birdie
on the second hole. Warrington was able to get up and down for a
par, while Barry's Isadora Stapff two-putted for her par to
advance. The other involved in the playoff was Lizzi Over, of
Barry. She hit a fairway bunker off the tee and missed a par
putt.
Belmont Abbey shot a 306 today, its best round of the championship,
as Warrington posted rounds of 75-75-76. Michelle Low finished in a
tie for 18th with rounds of 80-77-76.
Senior Liz Cortez, in her final collegiate round, was four shots
back as she opened with an 83 and closed with a pair of 77s.
Freshmen Meagan Wallace and Melissa Siviter both finished in a tie
for 37th. Wallace carded rounds of 82-84-77, and Siviter opened
with an 83 and closed with rounds of 80.
Warrington advances to the national tournament, which will take
place May 12-15 at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.
