2018 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Preview and Players to Watch

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The 2018 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse preseason poll has been released. Limestone College will enter the season as the favorite to win the Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championship, according to Conference Carolinas coaches.

 Limestone College: The Saints received 90 points from Conference coaches, all from first-place votes.

Limestone is the reigning Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championship winner after going 17-3 overall in 2017 and 8-2 in conference play. The Saints return a load of talent, including Offensive Player of the Year Shannon Sisk and all-conference selection Courtney Lafler, which makes them a clear favorite in 2018.

2. University of Mount Olive: The Trojans nabbed 81 points and one first-place vote from Conference coaches.

Mount Olive, who went 12-7 overall and 9-1 in league play, enters 2018 as the defending Conference Carolinas regular season champion. The all-conference trio of Michaela Ciciarelli, Kiara Burke and Jackie Kaderabek are back for UMO and will be the catalyst to a championship run this year.

3. Belmont Abbey College: The Crusaders of Belmont Abbey enter this season ranked third with 75 points. The Abbey went 8-2 in Conference Carolinas play and 10-8 overall in 2017.

Belmont Abbey's success will be led by the All-Conference Carolinas duo of Rebecca Luca and Rebecca Stromberg.

4. North Greenville University: The Crusaders of North Greenville are ranked fourth with 66 points. NGU finished last season 6-4 in league play and 10-9 overall.

  • *Rachel Kellogg (So.) - Midfield


5. Lees-McRae College: The Bobcats tallied 54 points and are fifth-place to open 2018. Lees-McRae finished last season by going 5-10 overall and 3-7 in Conference Carolinas play.

  • Tiffany Laster (Sr.) - Attack
  • Peyton LeCompte (Sr.) - Attack


6. Chowan University: Chowan tallied 47 points and landed in sixth-place to open the year. The Hawks went 4-10 overall in 2017 while posting a 3-7 conference mark.

Players to Watch:

7. Converse College: The Valkyries collected 46 points from Conference coaches. Converse ended last season 5-12 overall with a 3-7 Conference Carolinas mark.

  • Brittni Jones (Sr.) - Attack
  • Aubrie Lauderdale (Sr.) - Attack


8.  Erskine College: The Fleet earned 30 points and enter the season ranked eighth. Erskine finished 2-15 overall and 1-9 in league play a season ago.

Players to Watch:

  • Sara Castro (So.) - Goalkeeper
  • Faith Flanagan (Fr.) - Midfield
  • Katie Shalgenhauf (So.) - Defense


9. Barton College: The Bulldogs posted 24 points from Conference coaches to enter the season ranked ninth. Barton went 1-11 overall in 2017, which included a 1-9 league record.

Players to Watch:

  • *Rebecca Fraser (So.) - Defense
  • Alyssa Torres (So.) - Midfield


10.  Southern Wesleyan University: Closing out the poll is first-year program Southern Wesleyan. The Warriors tallied 17 points from Conference coaches.

  • Kaeleigh McDaniel (Fr.) - Goalkeeper
  • Jairy Sandoval (Fr.) - Midfield

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 11 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, and Southern Wesleyan. Emmanuel College is currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
