Anderson's Edwards Named Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

Thomasville, N.C.> Anderson University's Amanda Edwards (14-15 overall, 10-4 conf.) has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women's volleyball Player of the Week during week number seven in the 2007 season. Amanda Edwards led Anderson to two victories that helped move the Lady Trojans to within one-half game of first place. Both victories were against teams ahead of Anderson in the league standings - Limestone and Mount Olive. Edwards averaged five kills per game in the two matches, almost 1.5 kills ahead of her season average. Her hitting percentage in the two matches was .311. The junior from Azle, TX also averaged 20 digs per match and 4.10 digs per game.

Lees-McRae's Berin Boracic Named
Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Third Time this Year

Thomasville, N.C.> Lees-McRae College's Berin Boracic (13-1-1 overall, 7-1 conf.) has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas men's soccer Player of the Week during week number seven in the 2007 season. This is the third time this year that Boracic has received the award. Boracic regained the Conference Carolinas scoring lead last week overtaking teammate Lee Squires, with two goals and an assist. Against nationally No. 13th ranked Lander, Boracic tallied his conference leading seventh assist. He followed that up with two goals against league rival Pfeiffer. Boracic started the scoring for Bobcats finding the back of the net for his 13th goal of the season. Then with the score tied at 2-2, the junior forward from Orlando, FL scored his third game winning goal of the season to give the Bobcats the win. Boracic's 35 points this season are a new career season high, besting last year's 34 points in 17 games. His seven assists are also a career high while his 14 goals are one shy of his career high. Boracic and the Bobcats are currently riding their best season in school history and are ranked No. 2 nationally in DII for the third straight week.

St. Andrews Kerrie Brown Named Women's Soccer Player of the Week

Thomasville, N.C.> St. Andrews Presbyterian College's Kerrie Brown (6-5-4 overall, 3-2-3 conf.) has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women's soccer Player of the Week during week number seven in the 2007 season. Junior forward Kerrie Brown scored three goals and provided two assists this week as the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women's soccer team extended its undefeated streak to seven games with a pair of wins and a tie. Brown started the week off with back-to-back goals against Conference Carolinas rival Queens University of Charlotte in a 3-1 victory on Tuesday. Brown's first tally tied the game for the Knights and her next score was the eventual game-winner as SAPC increased its undefeated streak against league opponents to six games. On the next day, Brown and the Knights traveled to Columbia College and pulled off a 3-2 overtime victory. Brown helped St. Andrews win the game by assisting on the golden goal. Brown capped the week with another big performance in a 2-2 tie against Chowan University on Saturday. Brown scored the first goal of the game and then with St. Andrews trailing 2-1 late, she assisted on the game-tying score that kept the Knights out of the loss column for the month of October. Brown's eight point week doubled her team-high totals of 6 goals, 3 assists, and 15 points.

Named Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for Third
Time

Thomasville, N.C.> Queens University of Charlotte's Daniel Kanyaruhuru has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas men's cross country Runner of the Week during week number seven in the 2007 season. This is the third time that Kanyaruhuru has received the award this year as he continues to lead his Queens team. This weekend he finished second overall in a field full of 218 runners that also included nationally ranked DI teams from Duke and Texas. The senior from Phoenix, AZ led his team to a ninth place finish in the 20 team race. Kanyaruhuru and the Royals will run this weekend in the Conference Carolinas conference championship in Spartanburg, SC hosted by Converse College.
