Limestone Captures Third Straight Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Championship Title

WILSON, N.C. - Limestone's Roberto Ortega Lopez scored in the 95th minute to lead the fifth-seeded Saints to a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over third-seeded Erskine in the 2019 Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Championship final on Sunday, Nov. 17 at Electric Supply Company Field.

The Saints with the win in the final earn the league's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament. The Saints have now won three straight Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Championships (2017, 2018 and 2019).

Limestone (11-6-2) arrived on the scoreboard first in the 42nd minute when Ruairi Croskery scored on a penalty kick. The lead would not last long though with Erskine's (10-8-1) Dario Pavon equalizing minutes later off a beautiful cross into the box from Sam James.

Neither team would find the back of the net in the second half to send the game into overtime. Named the Most Valuable Player in the tournament, Ortega Lopez captured the game-winning goal for the Saints when he scored off a Lee Murray cross.

Erskine out-shot the Saints, 11-10, in the match, while Limestone had a 7-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
