HIGH POINT, N.C. – King University outside hitter Julie Ward has been named Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for matches played during the week of Sept. 3-9, the Conference announced today.
Ward, a freshman from Berthoud, Colo., played in four matches and averaged 3.77 kills per set, but helped paced the Tornado to a 4-1 record last week. She posted two double-doubles after hitting .281 and tallying 49 kills, 42 digs, three blocks, two aces and one assist on the week.
Ward started the week with a near double-double, putting up 14 kills, nine digs and two blocks in a 3-0 sweep of Virginia-Wise. In a 3-0 loss to No. 16 Gannon, she would manage seven kills and seven digs with an ace. Ward continue her dominance in her final two matches of the week, going for 17 kills and 16 digs in a 3-1 win over Concord, followed by 11 kills and 10 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Kentucky State.
Ward currently ranks second in Conference Carolinas in kills (140) and kills per set (3.78), while ranking fifth in hitting percentage (.266).

Caitlyn Smirne (Lees-McRae) - 51 kills for 4.25 kills per set average along with 33 digs and nine aces in four matches. Posted pair of double-doubles.
Courtney Williamson (North Greenville) - 33 kills for 2.54 kills per set average along with 45 digs in four matches. Posted pair of double-doubles.
Kaytlin Elkins (Barton) - 94 kills for 4.48 kills per set average along with 59 digs in six matches. Posted pair of double-doubles.
Mackenzie Chrapliwy (Belmont Abbey) - 49 kills for 3.50 kills per set average along with 40 digs and 10 aces in four matches. Posted pair of double-doubles.
Mia Bergan (Limestone) - 105 assists for a 8.08 assists per set average along with 33 digs in three matches. Posted pair of double-doubles and surpassed 1,000 career kills.
