Belmont Abbey’s Cassidy Bonito Named Women’s Volleyball National Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Cassidy Bonito of Belmont Abbey was named the NCAA Division II Sports Imports National Player of the Week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019.

A senior setter out of Pompano Beach, Fla., Bonito averaged 11.00 assists, 2.13 digs and 2.00 digs per set in two Belmont Abbey wins last week. She was also named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week. She is the second player in Belmont Abbey women’s volleyball history to garner Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honors. The other was Hannah Schellenberg on Sept. 22, 2015. 

Bonito started last week by ending her efforts with 33 assists, seven kills and five digs in a win at Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday, Oct. 30. In Belmont Abbey's 3-2 come-from-behind road victory over North Greenville on Saturday, Nov. 2, Bonito just missed on her seventh triple-double of the season with a season-best 55 assists to go along with 12 digs and nine kills.

Bonito now has nine 50-plus assist matches in her career.
